Internet Assigned Numbers Authority

The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) is the entity that oversees global IP address allocation, autonomous system number allocation, root zone management in the Domain Name System (DNS), media types, and other Internet Protocol-related symbols and numbers. IANA is a department operated by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, also known as ICANN.

Information technology

Information technology (IT) is the acquisition, processing, storage and dissemination of vocal, pictorial, textual and numerical information by a microelectronics-based combination of computing and telecommunications. The term in its modern sense first appeared in a 1958 article published in the Harvard Business Review, in which authors Leavitt and Whisler commented that "the new technology does not yet have a single established name. We shall call it information technology (IT)." Some of the modern and emerging fields of Information technology are next generation web technologies, bioinformatics, cloud computing, global information systems, large scale knowledgebases, etc.

What is an Uplink (Port)

In computer networking, an uplink is a connection from a device or smaller local network to a larger network.An uplink port is a port set aside for you to connect one piece of networking equipment to another (as opposed to a server or client computer). 10Mbps is about ten times slower than 100 Mbps. Mbps is MegaBits Per Second, so every eight seconds the equivalent Mega Byte is transferred.

Put another way, there are 8 bits to a byte, 1024 bytes to a kilobyte and 1024 kilobytes to a megabyte. 100 Mbits = 100/8 MBytes = 12.4 MBytes/sec; 10 Mb = 1.24 MB/sec.

Some Ethernet computer networking equipment contains an uplink port. These ports simplify connecting different types of Ethernet devices to each other, such as when linking a local home network to a modem and the Internet.

A special networking port on a hub or switch that is used to connect it to a larger network. Often you need a special crossover cable to make this connection function properly. If you think of a network as a tree, the hub (or switch) on top connects to the uplink ports of the hubs (or switches) below it, and so on.

To boot using a USB pen drive, use the dd command to copy the diskboot.img image file from the /images/ directory on the DVD or CD-ROM. For example:

dd if=diskboot.img of=/dev/sda

Your BIOS must support booting from a USB device in order for this boot method to work.
